Since the bees are only active in the warmer months, this opportunity is only available from June to August. Here is what we do: We meet you at our home and (optional) have some tea (or coffee/water/juice) with toast/english muffin and, of course, honey. We do a quick introduction to bees and a discussion about what you will see and do out at the apiary and what you should expect from us and the bees. We also take this opportunity to answer any questions you have, learn about what your comfort level is, and discuss what you are most interested to learn about, before we get out to the apiary. Then we go out to the bees (a five-sixteen minute drive). Once there, we will get you "suited-up". We provide bee suits and gloves, you should wear rubber boots or at least closed-in shoes. You will learn how to light a smoker and how to use it when opening a hive. We show you how to open a hive and you can try one yourself if you wish. We will take out a few frames full of bees and you can see the brood and look for larvae and eggs. If you like, you can hold a frame yourself and we will see if we can spot the queen; sometimes she is hard to find, but we will try. Optional: We can take photos (posed and candid) during your experience and these are available for you to upload/air drop afterwards. You also get to take home a 500g jar of our liquid honey.
We are a local Saskatchewan honey producer working hard to bring you carefully handcrafted honey products. Questions about our product? Get in touch! We are happy to chat.
